1. Introduction

The Department of Dravyaguna is one of the core departments in the faculty of Ayurveda. It deals with the identification, properties, actions, and therapeutic uses of medicinal plants as per Ayurvedic principles. The department emphasizes both classical knowledge and modern scientific validation of medicinal herbs.

2. Vision

To establish the Department of Dravyaguna as a center of excellence in the field of Ayurvedic pharmacognosy, herbal research, and education.

3. Mission

  • To impart quality education in Dravyaguna to UG students
  • To promote research in the field of medicinal plant identification, pharmacological studies, and conservation.
  • To preserve and propagate the traditional knowledge of medicinal plants.

4. Objectives

  • To provide detailed knowledge about Rasa, Guna, Veerya, Vipaka and Prabhava of drugs.
  • To conduct practical training in identification of herbs (Aushadhi Parichaya).
  • To maintain a well-documented herbal garden.
  • To encourage interdisciplinary research.

  • Herbal Garden with more than 200 medicinal plants.
  • Museum with preserved specimens, charts, and photographs.
  • Pharmacognosy Lab for microscopic and macroscopic study of drugs.

  • Plant Authentication Services for internal and external researchers.
